According to Hitwise, Facebook is the largest single website in the United States garnering some 7.07% of all internet visits in the country.
Yes, more than seven out of every one hundred total visits to any website in the US is now to Facebook. Google, you are number two.
Facebook is a massive social behemoth around the world, but in its home market it has shown particular strength. The website has now grown past its former status as a household name to being the location of a generation. Its traffic numbers reflect this. The graph speaks for itself, so we will let you read it:

I don't go to Facebook to search ; I don't go to Google to see what my friends are up to.
Raw hits in this case make little difference – It's google's “job” to get you to leave their site (presumably to go to a property that has the most relevant search result) whereas Facebook does everything in its power to keep you there.
Odd that analytics like this are even considered ..

For the past 6 years all I have ever known is Google being the #1 site and now all of a sudden Facebook is the number #1 site. I’m curious to see how long this will last and considering that Hitwise is the only site that is stipulating that Facebook is the number 1 , I wonder how accurate could it be. Alexa rankings still holds Google at the top spot.

Google need to come up with some new innovations rather than being second to the idea every time. Almost everything they’ve come up with in the last couple of years has been a copy of something else, and I think it’s starting to show.
