The mobile operator hit 500,000 subscribers in June, pointing to a rather impressive spike in new customers over the past few months. The roll-out of ‘double-speed’ 4G in numerous towns and cities, as well an extensive marketing campaign with American actor Kevin Bacon may have contributed to the faster take-up of new mobile phone contracts.

EE now has to contend with Vodafone and O2, two rival operators who began offering 4G subscriptions on August 29. Three is also set to enter the fray in December, creating further competition in the UK.
EE’s internal target was to hit one million subscribers by the end of 2013. To reach that milestone figure four months early is a notable achievement, although it’ll be interesting to see whether it can maintain that momentum in the months ahead.
