Yahoo Scores Premier League Highlights Contract

Yahoo Scores Premier League Highlights Contract

Internet search giant Yahoo has secured a deal with the English Premier League, broadcasting online highlights over the next three seasons.

Currently, the rights are held by Virgin Media but from the start of next season (beginning late August), Yahoo will deliver a five-minute highlights package on its Yahoo.co.uk portal showing the most important events from each particular Premier League match.

According to The Guardian, the highlights will be available from midnight on Sunday after the weekend matches and from midnight the same day for midweek fixtures.

Contract negotiations between Yahoo and the Premier League are in the final stages but it is already known that the deal includes the right to syndicate all, or parts, of the highlights package to third parties.

Rich Riley, Yahoo’s European Managing Director said: “The acquisition of Premier League rights shows how serious Yahoo is about providing the best in video content for our both our users and advertisers,”

It is not known whether Yahoo will allow users to embed highlights in their own websites, we will keep you updated as soon as more details become available.
