Twitter is rolling out desktop notifications for direct messages

Twitter is making it easier to know when someone has messaged you; the company is rolling out desktop notifications for direct messages on Twitter.com.

The notifications will show up on the top right side of your screen. Click on it, and you’ll be taken to the DM interface.

Twitter has been making some strides to turn its direct messaging into a serious messaging platform, most notably with the removal of the 140 character limit for private conversations.

While Twitter users are predominantly mobile-first, the feature will come in handy for those who tend to stick around their desktops. With the Project Lightning coming soon – an attempt to turn the platform into a full-fledged news source – Twitter will be looking to make its desktop hub a little more useful.

The feature appears to still be rolling out to users – I wasn’t able to receive notifications. We’ve contacted Twitter for more information and will update this post when we hear back.
