Twitter is making it easier to report abuse on its service

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo knows that the service has a problem with harassment. Today it announced that it was rolling out new policies and procedures to help combat the horrible behavior that sometimes mars the Twitter experience.

These updates include allowing bystanders report abuse, an update to its in-product reporting feature and building a larger staff to handle the uptick in abusive reports.

“Overall, we now review five times as many user reports as we did previously, and we have tripled the size of the support team focused on handling abuse reports,” said Twitter VP of user services, Tina Bhatnagar in a post.

The Verge reports that Twitter will also make it harder for by potentially asking users with banned accounts for email or phone numbers to resume using the service.

If Twitter used its own Digits system as a stop gap against users creating multiple accounts, it could squelch some of the anonymous trolls that use the service.
