Twitter acquires Niche, a service that connects brands to internet celebrities

Twitter today announced it’s acquiring Niche, a startup that provides monetization strategies and software to the community on Twitter and Vine.

You might be wondering what exactly these monetization strategies are; Niche connects influential people on Vine and Twitter with brands to create sponsored content for sharing on their own channels. Think of it as a talent agency for social media ‘celebrities.’

Niche also offers “cross-platform analytics” but it’s not clear exactly what it tracks. Twitter’s example in the blog post is a series of sponsored pieces from Vine celebrities featuring the HP Pavilion x360.

If you wanted proof that Twitter’s serious about getting into the original content game, particularly in the video space, this is it.

It’s not as if we don’t have enough brands already in our feeds, though, it just appears Niche is a way to get internet celebrities to run sponsored skits.

Twitter didn’t disclose how much it acquired Niche for.
