Expect lots of fail whales over the next hour. Scheduled twitter maintenance.

Twitter has just updated its Status Blog notifying us that it has just begun scheduled network maintenance on its platform to perform a serious of tests which could result in millions of users experiencing errors or the dreaded Fail Whale.

The maintenance started at 6am PDT (2PM BST) and will likely last for around 90 minutes, affecting both the Twitter website and API calls made by third-party extensions and applications.

If you experience any problems during this period, Twitter isn’t down for the count, it’s scheduled and not the start of the Three Day Shutdown that many Twitter users were warning of a few days back.
