Fancy testing the new WordPress 3.0? You’re in luck. It’s just been released ready for you to try to break it.
According to the WordPress blog, it’s still an early beta, with some unfinished features. So you’re likely not going to want to run this on your primary site. However, there are some slick new toys to play with.
We will see some new UI features, but many of them are unfinished as of yet. For now, make sure you check out these:
- New default theme – end of an era. Twenty ten is the new theme.
- WordPress MU changes for multiple sites (more on them in a moment)
- Custom Post Types!
The last part is my favorite, by far. I write a variety of different posts, and categories don’t always cover it. Now you can make every one of your post types different, and customize how WordPress handles them.

It’s been a big day for WordPress. New iPhone app, and with tomorrow being Apple’s big day, make sure to grab the brand new WordPress iPad app!

Great…waiting for stable release
Nice! I was waiting for this release for a new personal blog… Definitely gonna play with it!
But not going live till a stable release is in the area…
Cheers
I think the Post templates will be a hit.
I had to go through template gyrations to get this to work: http://occamsrazr.com/2010/03/30/political-geom…
I'm so much excited with the launch of WordPress 3.0. Though since it's beta release I'll wait for a while to get the beta 2 and will install it on my live site.
My plan is to put all my WordPress blogs into one single MU, since I can use one plugin in all the blogs.
This will save lots of resources for my blog.
This is terrific for people who have a lot of time to play with WordPress and figure it out. For bloggers who just want to write blogs and run a simple website, WP is in danger of becoming too complicated to use. If these features really saved a blogger time, it would be worth it, but the more complicated WP gets, the more time it takes a blogger to learn and use and integrate with everything else. I just installed the beta and I'll definitely be testing it out. As a writer, I'm growing more and more frustrated with all the bells and whistles though.
WordPress 3.0 works perfectly, but I am still missing the way to save different sets of plugins and only having to turn on or off the set, I am missing the ability to quick select the categories, just start typing the name of the category and this is filter for easier selection, I am missing a better image resizing or editing, anyway, I love wordpress.
