At least someone has half a brain.

They should be calculating number of unique active users.

I only check out twitter's website when they release a new feature (i.e. local trends) … other than that I tend to stick with HootSuite, Twittelator & Chromed Bird for the day to day grind.

I read your early post that 10 – 15 million users for twitter even towards the end last year, I wonder as you mentioned how many are active real users. Myspace seems a little high as well.

Actually, despite the criticism, I see the graph representing revenue streams rather than users – I think the thing that may throw people is the 'numbers of unique visitors monthly' which looks like the main thing about the graph rather than the revenue stream side. Of course, we all know a bit more about things than shown on the graph but it may be a useful graphic for some who just need a snapshot of who is commercialising more than others.

Disclaimer: I have no affiliation with the content producers, nor the content itself.

First time I saw the graph was probably in August (as you can clearly see by the August marker on the FB data) I hope they roll a new one shortly.

It's going to be interesting to see how these companies evolve as they consider charging users for accounts.

There's a difference between “active” users vs “passive” visitor. I'm going to predict Twitter's business model is dead on arrival (doa) because they can't keep ACTIVE users.

    • 80% failed to provide a homepage URL
    • 76% of users have not entered a bio in their profile
    • 69% have not specified a location
    • 55% are not following anyone
    • 55% have never tweeted
    • 53% have no followers
