Do nothing at your job today because Cookie Clicker’s update will own your mind

If you’re really not in the mood to do anything today and would prefer to get sucked down a rabbit hole that involves cookies, clicking, capitalism, Cronenbergian grandmas and the Devil himself, then I humbly give you the newly refreshed ‘Cookie Clicker 2.0.’

The premise is simple: you click the cookie to make cookies, and once you have enough cookies you can let other things make the cookies for you. Running on an army of grandmas, farms, mines, and other means, you can create a vast intergalactic cookie empire of which remains in your sole control.

F**k it, we'll do it live!

The Javascript game was developed by Julien ‘Orteil’ Thiennot, ‘Cookie Clicker’ is one of the prime examples of ‘idle gaming’ made popular at the time — a genre which includes the also very fun ‘Candy Box.’ Both equally eat your time, and make you obsessed with efficiencies as your browser tab shows an ever-increasing number of resources at your disposal.

Version 2.0 includes a lot of mysterious end-game mechanics that would best be suited to find out on your own — for a game about cookies, it’s very complex and filled with many consequences.

Orteil says the new version has been “a long time coming!”

Let the cookies click on.
