Some online comments can actually be useful – it’s the truth that moaning writers don’t tend to mention – but they’re usually swamped by the sheer volume of terrible, no good, awful aggression, snark and spite.

London-based designer Veronica Dearly has created the ‘Don’t be a dick’ club with the express purpose of persuading people to… you know… be less dickish. How do you join? It’s simple. She explains: “Just buy a badge and take the pledge to not be a dick.”
I think we can all manage that. Especially as the badges only cost $8 (£5). Oh, by the way, I’m definitely getting one. I’m such a dick.
