Actually, Michael Phelps came away relatively unscathed from the whole ordeal, he was dropped by Kellogg’s and suspended for 3 months, but he maintained his contracts through Speedo, Omega, Visa, and Subway. Certainly not as bad as it would have been a decade ago, I’m sure, and to be honest, I’m betting Kellogg’s jumped the gun and anticipated a much stronger reaction then the typical "The guy won 14 Gold Medals, who gives a shit if he smokes herb from time to time?" reaction most people had at the time. Not nearly as bad as the whole Tiger Woods debacle going on right now, which also shouldn’t be a matter of public record, but c’est la vie…We’re moving beyond the "OMG <blank> smokes pot?! The horror!!!!" Reefer Madness-esque era of paranoia, propaganda, and hypocrisy, and thank God for it. Every year more and more successful people are going to come out and admit that they use marijuana, and eventually it’ll be legalized.
