Geek looking to get fit? Seriously consider getting one of these.

Picture 24So ever since I begun my life as a blogger/webgeek/editor, I’ve piled on the pounds. Seriously, as mentally tiring as this job is, bloggers, you aren’t burning calories sat in that chair all day.

So, I’ve always been on the lookout for interesting ways to work and exercise at the same time. Part of me genuinely wants to put some cash together and get one of these, but then I came across this.

It’s called the SurfShelf and it clips onto virtually any treadmill, cycle or exercise machine and lets you rest your laptop while you gently walk, jog or cycle. Don’t get me wrong here, I’m not saying everyone should be doing this as a replacement to a main form of exercise. What I am saying however is this could be a fantastic way to keep moving while you’re at work. Just walking, even very slowly, while you write an email or review a document.

Don’t just get my word for it Gizmodo have an awesome review of the product, and they’ve actually had the opportunity to really put it through its paces. Their thoughts? “This is one of my favorite inventions ever.”

Sadly it’s only available to order if you’re based in the US or Canadian, although you can contact them for international shipping costs – I’ve yet to hear back.
