Google celebrates 40 years of Sesame Street today by showing different characters of the show in their Google Doodle.
Oddly enough they use different characters for different countries.
First one is from Belgium and The Netherlands, second one is from Israel, third one is live in Poland, Indonesia, the Philippines and the last one comes from Google Mexico.

You will be seeing some version on Google.com later today.
Wonder what made Google decide to use different characters and what they based their choices on. Any thoughts?

Big Bird is not on Mexico’s version of Sesame Street, instead they have Abelardo (that green bird from the pic), so having Big Bird on the google doodle there would just confuse people.
It’s not that hard to explain the different logos. The first puppet is ‘Ieniemienie’ which is on Dutch Sesame Street (Belgian children watch Sesame Street on Dutch television).
The second puppet is probably just for Sesame Street in Israel as is with the last puppet. The third puppet is Big Bird, but due to license issues Big Bird looks different in every country. In The Netherlands, he’s blue for instance (and when I look at the fourth logo I see a green version ;)). My guess is that Poland, Indonesia and the Philippines don’t have own content but just dubbed content and that’s why they can use the original Big Bird.
So, not that hard. Of course Google could’ve just used Bert & Ernie. I think those two puppets are on every Sesame Street.
DID in Australia

Sesame Street is made up of local versions. The Workshop draws from local culture to create a cast that will most effectively connect with the children of the area. For instance, Bangladesh’s Sesame Street has no Big Bird. Instead, they have a large tiger.
Duh~
In Australia we got Cookie Monster and I think its the best logo yet

The UK ‘cookie monster’ version – http://www.google.co.uk/logos/cookie_monster-hp.gif – is by far the most fun, and best design! Great collection by Google, and hot off the back of the Wallace & Gromit anniversary logo yesterday, which was awesome (UK only perhaps)
There are some pretty great logos for other events etc at the Google Logos page: http://www.google.co.uk/logos/

Where is snuffaluffagus? He should be on the google homepage for the Sesame Anniversary too !!!!
Iam wondering the exact same thing! He was a big thing when I was young, no one belived Big Bird has a friend named Snuffaluppagus for the longest time, then everyone met him!
Where is he?? They have Elmo, and he hasn’t been around as long!
