Honestly, when I saw this photo I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry – or excuse myself.
I knew that Microsoft was willing to spend millions to persuade people to try Bing. I also knew that Microsoft was willing to spend millions more to purchase search market share.
What I forgot was the Golden Rule of marketing: Sex Sells. Google runs a Super Bowl ad about falling in love and the whole world goes “Awwwww, that’s sweet.” Microsoft grabs a pair of buxom blondes, puts them in tight pink t-shirts, and poses them stroking – a laptop. As Seinfeld would say, “hey, those VS models have their hands all over that Bing laptop, maybe if I used Bing…” What if I just put a Bing sticker on my machine, would that make it a chick magnet? Oh, who am I kidding, I only have a netbook (size matters).
Seriously though, this campaign won’t bring Bing any new users (except for males, age 15-17), but it will distract the rest of us males from the fact that Google is better and Apple is cooler.
Enjoy(?):

Well… not quite buxom now are they? Especially the one on the left.
I wonder which one uses the Tipex to correct misspellings on the screen?
beautiful girls. Seriously, what are they advertising?
I would definitely Bing them.
wow.. I saw them.. I went bing…
and thats it.. it was over…
am back to google.
Sorry, I could not watch it to the end, bear in mind it is so pathetic, they actually read out of FB page and respond with cliches, why Bing is on the lid remains a mystery to those who had the nerves to watch till the end…
Seriously, when will you stop licking Apple’s and Google’s ass? This is called Microsoftofobia, unconditioned hatred for Microsoft products.
Have you even considered looking into Pro’s and Con’s, NOT made by fanboys of Apple, Google or Linux?
I mean I USE google, preferring it, but for God’s sake, I’m not running around in public screaming that Microsoft sucks just because their search engine doesn’t suit me or I’m just not used to using it.
According to me MS can do better than this. This is not the way MS deals. Is it???
@Alexander
I have met with Bing. I have been commissioned to write about Search by Bing. I receive feature updates directly from Bing. My last blog (over 4,000 posts about alternatives to Google) did not even cover Google or Apple. In fact, we sponsored our annual “Day without Google.”
I hope that bolsters my credibility.
@Charles
I reacted to the phrase “Google is better and Apple is cooler”.
To dig deep inside you would have to explore all of Google’s features and all of Apple’s products.
Microsoft has Bing, Apple has no widely used search engine. (Apple is cooler with what? The iPod from Chernobyl? The overpriced desktops and laptops?) Google has many applications, so does Microsoft. In fact I liked some apps provided by Microsoft more than their analogy offered by Google. I’m talking about Microsoft Office Live vs Google Docs. So then there’s Google Maps vs Bing Maps. Bing Maps have every street of my town on their map while in Google Maps even the main street is off by 200 yards. It seems that the only reason I’m using Google’s search engine is because I’m used to it.
I, as a very experienced web user and a successful web developer, cannot agree at all with your last affirmation. But hey, it’s a blog, thus it’s your personal opinion. Still it would be better if some serious arguments came along that affirmation, besides a commercial targeted to sexually aroused males who can’t fulfill their needs.
Cheers.
