Samsung’s Galaxy S7 active gets a bigger battery and tougher screen than its flagship sibling

If you’ve been on the lookout for a powerful smartphone that can brave the elements, Samsung’s latest handset might be what you need.

The 5.1-inch Galaxy S7 active features identical specifications to this year’s excellent Galaxy S7 flagship, but comes with a bigger 4,000mAh battery and a shatter-resistant screen.

It features a rugged-looking case that’s designed to protect the phone from drops up to 5 feet, as well as Gorilla Glass 4 and a layer of polycarbonate to keep the quad HD Super AMOLED screen from shattering.

Under the hood, you’ll find a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and32GB of onboard storage. You can add up to 200GB of space with a microSD card. And as with the original S7, this model comes with a 12-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel camera in the front and a fingerprint reader.

There’s also an additional shortcut button above the volume rocker on the side of the phone, which you can configure to launch your favorite apps when you press or hold it down.

It’ll be interesting to see if Samsung can attract customers with its new adventure-ready device. In the US, AT&T will begin selling it exclusively starting June 10 with 24-month and 30-month contracts starting at $26.50 a month.
