Dixons Carphone is planning a mobile network that’ll hook up your connected appliances

Dixons Carphone is planning a mobile network that’ll hook up your connected appliances

Last week, Sky announced it’ll offer mobile services with the help of Telefónica UK, now awkwardly-named electrical retailer Dixons Carphone is getting in on the act. It’s signed an agreement with Three to sell branded mobile tariffs.

As well as selling contracts for smartphones that will allow customers to easily change the amount of minutes and data they receive, the company will sell data plans for laptops, tablets and home appliances. One reason mentioned in the merger of Dixons and Carphone Warehouse was a plan to capitalize on the Internet of Things.

The company’s mobile service will be launched in the spring under a new brand name. Dixons Caphone also sells mobile contracts for other network operators including EE, Vodafone and O2.
