AT&T’s Mobile Share group data plans available August 23

AT&T has today announced that its Mobile Share group data plans will be available as of August 23rd. The plans allow for up to 10 devices and AT&T says that switching to the plans will not reset the length of your current cotnract.

The plans were unveiled early last month, but now we have a firm date. AT&T’s David Christopher on the plans:

As families prepare to send students back to school, many are looking for a convenient way to connect tablets and laptops or add new smartphones. AT&T Mobile Share plans are a great option.

AT&T has also launched a Mobile Share Planner tool that will help you calculate your total estimated usage and recommends the right data sharing plan for you, giving you an estimate on your cost.

The plans aren’t necessarily going to save you money, but there is potential there if you already have an unlimited talk and text plan. If you’re a bit more conservative on your minutes and SMS messages, they’re likely to raise your bill, rather than lower it.

Still, as more of our devices become connected to the cellular internet, any way to pool the data that we use is welcome. Verizon has alos launched a similar set of plans that you can also share across 10 devices. For a good comparison of the plans, check out this article over at iMore.
