Samsung’s Galaxy S III is already Amazon Germany’s bestselling smartphone

Samsung’s Galaxy S III is already Amazon Germany’s bestselling smartphone

Even though Samsung’s ‘Next Galaxy’ smartphone is still just under two weeks away from being unveiled at Earls Court in London, the device is already the top-selling smartphone on Amazon.de, beating a number of the company’s other handsets — including the Galaxy S II and Galaxy Nexus — into top spot.

The Galaxy S III listing on Amazon.de saw a lot of attention over the past week, with Samsung reported to have pushed it early with a retail price of €599. The page also detailed the device’s specifications, which include a 4.7-inch Super AMOLED screen, 12-megapixel camera and 16GB of internal storage.

Worried that Amazon may be listing the device as a bestseller on viewing figures alone, we noticed that Amazon does indeed list such products in order of sales, stating: “These lists, updated hourly, contain bestselling items.”

Whilst it isn’t clear if this is a genuine listing, German consumers appear to have been sold on Samsung’s new flagship Android device, without even seeing it. So far, we have only gained a glimpse of the device via a leaked video (which is reportedly a test unit for the real handset) and promotional campaigns that include a website countdown and new teaser video.

Samsung will unveil its “Next Galaxy” handset at a press event on May 3. We will be in attendance, delivering the latest news from the launch.
