Korean electronics giant Samsung is reportedly set to launch the Galaxy S III, the successor to its popular Galaxy S II Android smartphone, at Mobile World Congress in February, also debuting new 3D-capable devices in the first quarter of 2012.
ETNews reports that Samsung will choose to introduce the latest in its Galaxy S line in Barcelona, almost exactly a year after it launched the Galaxy S II, the world’s most successful Android smartphone to date.
The device is expected to feature new quad-core processing technology and may be outfitted with 3D technology, as Samsung looks to differentiate its smartphones from Apple’s popular iPhone. With an MWC launch, the Galaxy S III may go on sale in the second quarter.
3D photo and video recording capabilities may be coming to additional Samsung smartphones next year, coming to a device referred to as the Galaxy S 3D — helping users deliver content to their 3D TVs. Again, this device could be launched in the second quarter of 2012.
The report sits firmly in the rumour category but with the Korean smartphone vendor introducing the Galaxy S II at the same event earlier this year, it shouldn’t be ruled out that the company would do the same again.
