HP’s “One Last Run” of TouchPads available in North America only

HP’s “One Last Run” of TouchPads available in North America only

With HP scheduled to produce “one last run” of TouchPads to “meet unfulfilled demand”, you may have regained interest in the stricken webOS tablet and been motivated to grab yourself a tablet device before it meets its end.

Firesale pricing saw the device sell out across the U.S and in other regions worldwide, so you would expect that HP would send shipments to the very same retailers, hoping to capitalise on demand despite the fact it will cost the company millions of dollars in lost revenues.

Wrong.

It appears that HP will only be sending fresh supplies of its TouchPad to its partners in North America, meaning American and Canadian shoppers will be the only ones capable of buying the device through the proper channels.

Mobot spoke to a representative at Edelman, HP’s UK PR agency, which confirmed the news in a statement:

“We are pleased by the response to webOS and look forward to customer feedback so we can further enhance the platform. A limited quantity of TouchPads will be available in the coming weeks in North America only. In EMEA we are discontinuing the webOS hardware operations and will not offer any additional products beyond what might be currently available in selective outlets.”

HP originally said in a blog post that it didn’t “know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase,” so whilst it didn’t confirm that it would skip the UK and other countries, it appears the statement referred specifically to customers in North America.

Bad news for those of you outside Canada and the U.S, perhaps you can get a special friend to buy you one and ship it over.
