LG Optimus 2X Confirmed For February UK Release

PocketLint has confirmed that the world’s first dual-core smarpthone, the LG Optimus 2X, will be launching in “mid to late February” after UK electronics retailer Expansys listed the device on its site with a February 21 release date.

Expansys is well known for posting new devices on its website ahead of their releases, it was one of the first retailers to provide a pre-order price for the Samsung Galaxy Tab. The Optimus 2X is currently priced at ÂŁ499.99 but is set to fall before it is released.

It was initially thought that the device would launch in Europe in January. It is not clear whether the Optimus 2X will launch outside of the UK during this time but LG has confirmed the Expansys listing is accurate – James Choi, marketing strategy and planning team director of LG Electronics Global noting the device would release in mid to late February.

The LG Optimus 2X was announced in December and boasts a 4-inch screen, 8GB memory (expandable up to 32GB), dual camera (1.3MP front, 8MP back), full HD video playback and HDMI mirroring, allowing you to output your videos on to the big screen. The Optimus 2X has both an accelerometer and a gyro sensor and a 1500mAh battery.

Although initial previews suggested the device would launch with Android 2.2, LG has also confirmed the Optimus 2X will be getting Android 2.3 (Gingerbread), although it is not known whether this will be at launch or via an over-the-air update.
