Gingerbread on your Nexus One? Not just yet.

Gingerbread on your Nexus One? Not just yet.

With Google’s release of the Nexus S and Android 2.3 “Gingerbread”, the rumor mill started early today. There were many of our cohorts in the blogging world who thought that 2.3 would begin rolling out to Nexus One owners today, as well. Sadly, that appears to not be the case just yet.

While Nexus One owners can enter the code *#*#2432546#*#* in a dialer screen to force an update check, there’s no update available just yet. How long will a the Nexus One owners have to wait? There’s no definitive date just yet, but Reto Meier (a London-based Googler) says that it should be coming “in a few weeks.”

So, while we hate to be the bearers of bad news here at TNW, it’s important information that you need to know. The Nexus S, in case you’ve missed it, is available from T-Mobile and Carphone Warehouse. As Matt Cutts points out, it’s also available at BestBuy without a contract. While the price might steepen, the reviews that we’ve read so far about the Nexus S show that it’s purely the next hottest phone on the market.
