Beware Of Fake TweetDeck App On The Android Market

Beware Of Fake TweetDeck App On The Android Market

If you are a Twitter user, you can’t have gone far without encountering at least a mention of the popular multi-platform Twitter application Tweetdeck. Just three days ago we gave TNW readers a sneak preview of the TweetDeck for Android Beta which has now been released to Tweetdeck account holders.

To install the beta, users are required to sign into their Tweetdeck account, request access to the beta application and wait for a confirmation email. When the email arrived in their inboxes, the user would then have to transfer the application file to their handset, something that was a little more difficult than some Android users are used to.

Exploiting the fact that many more users will now be checking the Android Market for an official download of TweetDeck for Android, a devious developer has uploaded an unofficial app to the market and is trying to sell copies using the TweetDeck brand name.

TweetDeck immediately set about notifying its users of the unofficial app, posting the following from its Twitter account:

A search of the Android Market does not bring up any results for TweetDeck on my device, so the app might have already been pulled from the Android Market. Remain skeptical of any TweetDeck releases on the Market should you see them until TweetDeck officially announces the public release of TweetDeck for Android.

This situation could be potentially embarrassing for Google and its application market, allowing a popular brand to be spoofed on the Android Market should not be as easy as it has been made to appear here.
