Windows Phone 7 Will Feature Remote Wipe, Location Services And Sync

With Windows Phone 7 devices expected to hit in under four months, some of the core opertaing system features are beginning to come to light.

As with most modern smartphone operating systems, third-party apps can be employed to increase the functionality of a users device, adding services that the operating system didn’t already feature. But when it comes to issues like losing your phone, working out its location and getting it back, there’s something to be said about using dedicated features built in to the phone itself rather than trusting a third-party developer with your information.

Engadget alerted us to a blog post by Microsoft where the software giant released information on a new set of tools designed to interact with Windows Phone 7 devices. By using its Skydrive software, users will be able to remotely wipe, lock or locate their phone and synchronise photos, notes, contacts and other content to and from the handset.

Microsoft are pushing ahead with a Q4 release and have identified the languages it will support and the countries where its handsets will initially launch:

During initial availability, Windows Phone 7 will support 5 languages; English, French, Italian, German and Spanish. The Windows Phone Marketplace will support the buying and selling of applications in 17 countries; Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, UK and United States.

If your country isn’t on the list, it looks like you will have to sit tight. I’m sure Microsoft will want to focus on its launches in the 17 countries listed and then work out where to launch next.
