Microsoft’s head of Windows is taking a year off

Joe Belfiore, Microsoft’s Corporate Vice President and a key member of the Windows team, is planning to take a year’s leave-of-absence starting next month.

Belfiore headed up the Windows Phone division at Microsoft for several years and most recently he was one of the leads in the development of Windows 10 as part of Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group.

His absence from recent Microsoft events, including the Windows 10 launch, had been noticed with Bryan Roper taking on Belfiore’s usual role as demo lead.

Following the year off, Belfiore confirmed that he will continue to work on the Windows platform.
