Microsoft today announced it is opening a Windows Azure Region in Brazil, slated to come online in early 2014. This will be the serviceÔÇÖs first major expansion into South America.

Microsoft says it will begin to on-board preview customers in the next four to six weeks. The company is promising new and existing customers in Brazil will experience ÔÇťbetter performance through reduced latency and will have the ability to keep their data in the country.ÔÇŁ The latter is a particularly important point given the recent NSA spying revelations.

Some of the biggest names in tech are coming to TNW Conference in Amsterdam this May.
