Ballmer confirms that a touch-optimized version of Office will be headed to the iPad… after Windows

Steve Ballmer, the outgoing CEO of Microsoft, confirmed today that the company will make a touch-optimized version of its Office software for the iPad, but it looks like it will first be developed for touchscreen devices running the Windows platform, as you might expect.

According to The Verge, Ballmer confirmed the software was on its way at the Gartner Symposium/ITXPO 2013 in Florida.

“[The] iPad will be picked up when there’s a touch-first user interface,” the report quotes Ballmer as saying, adding that work on said interface was already underway.
