Microsoft offers 200GB of SkyDrive storage for $100 per year, alongside two-year deal with Surface 2

The Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 were undoubtedly the centrepiece of Microsoft’s announcements today, but a couple of changes to SkyDrive were also revealed along the way.

Anyone with a next-generation Surface tablet-laptop hybrid will receive 200GB of SkyDrive storage for free over a two-year period. However, Microsoft is also offering the same amount of space to absolutely anyone for $100 per year.

The company says this will be enough “to take a photo, every hour, from the moment someone is born, to the day they graduate from college.”

It’s a pretty competitive price-point for individuals and ‘power users’ who want to store and access all of their content online. Dropbox offers only 100GB for $9.99 per month or $99 per year, while Google offers 200GB for $9.99 per month, or $119.88 every 12 months.

Is it enough to make you switch or take out a subscription?
