Car drives over Surface, Surface laughs and keeps on truckin’

If you bought a Surface, this story will hearten you. Fresh from the Microsoft-enthusiast forums is a tale fit for the blogosphere.

Prepare yourself for the story of a dude who put his Surface on his car, drove away, and then went back to find it. This is what he found upon discovering the device:

Each car passed by with the tires on each side of the Surface until the very last car. The tire of the car ran completely over the Surface and next thing I saw was my brand new $700 tablet and touch cover flying through the air in separate directions! My heart jumped, and so did I! I jumped out of my car and ran across the street to first grab the tablet, then the Surface, and then my phone which of course fell out of my lap during all this. I jumped back in my car just before 60 mph traffic made its way to me!

Not Shakespeare, but it gets the point across. And now, for fun, here’s a look at how the device fared:

And, finally, the screen post-accident:

The guy’s tweet is a good summation: “@surface My Surface got ran over by a car going 60mph yesterday! I’m tweeting from it right now! INCREDIBLE build quality!” Yes, the Surface is well built.

Microsoft, who dropped a Surface at the Windows 8 launch event for show, is proud of the device. The company loves doing this:
