Netflix confirms an outage is affecting service in ‘several regions’ [Update: Now working fine]

Netflix is down! Save us! Those are likely some of the cries of frustration being uttered by many loyal users of the video streaming site, which has acknowledged an outage has taken the service offline for viewers in “several regions”.

Update: And we’re back up and running again — officially:

The issue was acknowledged on Twitter one hour ago — approximately 7:30 pm PDT — although Downrightnow.com estimates the outage started around 6:30 pm. The company says it is working on a fix, and you can bet it will be doing it all can to get the service back and running again in US evening time — its peak viewing period.

As we reported last month, a new Sandvine report showed that Netflix accounts for one-third of all US traffic at peak times. Moreover, the company is seeing impressive growth on mobile, with traffic from devices increasing by almost 100 percent over the past year.
