Amazon launches Cloud Player in the UK, France and Germany, beating Google to the punch

Amazon launches Cloud Player in the UK, France and Germany, beating Google to the punch

Widening the availability of its Kindle Fire tablet range and now offering them across Europe, Amazon is ensuring that owners of the new devices will be able to take advantage of its expanding number of media services by launching its Cloud Player service in the UK, France and Germany.

Music Ally reports that Amazon pushed live a new update to its Cloud Player iOS app earlier today, announcing in the update notes that it had introduced the service in the UK, France and Germany. Users in both France and Germany will also see support for German and French languages.

Testing the service in the UK, we were able to successfully log in to Amazon’s Cloud Player service, although some users were reporting that they were being sent to the US site instead. Amazon states that this was likely an error due to users who had previously accessed the US site and it should now be resolved.

Amazon Cloud Player acts as a digital cloud-based locker for your music. It allows for up to 250 tracks to be stored on the service on the free tier, but you can bump this up to 250,000 tracks for £21.99 a year.

The service operates in a very similar fashion to Google Music, which allows users to listen to music hosted on their Google Music account or directly on their Android device or PC. Both companies provide music stores that can host purchased tracks, but Google has yet to launch its Google Music service outside the US.

In this respect, Amazon has one over its rival. Google is enjoying increased demand for its new Nexus 7 tablet in Europe but users cannot purchase music from its Google Play Music store.

To celebrate its Cloud Player launch, Amazon has issued a promotional code for 99p album downloads, which can be immediately transferred to Cloud Player once they have been purchased:
