24symbols white-labels its platform to give any organization its own ‘Spotify for books’

24symbols, the ‘Spotify for books’ startup that launched last summer, has been busy developing its service that allows users instant access to a library of books for a fixed fee. It introduced an iPad app, and more recently, a cross-platform HTML5 service. However, perhaps most interestingly, it’s opening up its platform for others to use.

Following the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, the Spanish startup believes that 24symbols is now mature enough for other businesses to benefit from without harming the core consumer business.

Aimed at publishers, academic institutions, product and service enterprises and beyond, 24symbols allows them to launch their own on-demand ebook libraries, accessible via browsers and the iPad, iPhone and Android devices

With social sharing features, a subscription payment system for users, the ability to tailor content to specific locales, detailed usage statistics and more, it’s a compelling offering for companies that don’t want to set up their own technology.

24symbols says that it’s already received plenty of interest in the SaaS product, and we can see it appealing particularly to publishers and academic libraries who may already have digital rights in place for their titles, and are looking for a way to easily make it accessible online.
