WordPress.com adds .me option for customized blog domain names

WordPress.com adds .me option for customized blog domain names

Earlier this week, WordPress.com added a follow button to all hosted blogs. And today, it announced users of the hosted blogging service can now upgrade and customize their domain name with a .me extension, adding to its existing repertoire of top-level domains which includes .com, .org and .net.

WordPress.com offers domain mapping services for its hosted blogs costing a couple of dollars per month, which means users don’t get involved in any of the configuration process.

In its blog post today, it says:

“One of the most common questions we get is whether you can use your own domain for WordPress.com blogs. Incidentally, Add a Domain is our most popular upgrade, so we know you love customizing your digital address and we are always looking for ways to make it better and easier”.

The .me domain is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Montenegro, and one appeal of securing a .me domain over, say, a .com or a .net is you’ll be more likely to secure your desired domain name, so this could be a popular addition to the WordPress.com service.
