Spotify streaming figures will power 3 new official Billboard charts

Spotify has just been revealed as the official Billboard chart’s exclusive streaming partner for 2016, meaning it will power all music playback for the 75 different top record lists compiled each week by the magazine.

The pair are also bringing out three new charts that are powered by the streaming happening on Spotify each week. The Viral 50 will chart the top songs shared socially each week, The Velocity Chart will show off the fastest-growing new tracks and Spotify Rewind will tally up tracks from the past that are making a comeback.

For all of the charts, you’ll be able play a 30-second snippet of each song on the Billboard website before being taken over to Spotify to hear the track in full.

This’ll no doubt give a cheeky traffic boost to Spotify over its rivals – it’ll probably put you out a little if you love the charts but it’s not currently your streaming platform of choice.
