Bumble and Spotify now let you weed out potential dates based on shitty musical taste

Bumble, the dating app that lets women make the first move, and Spotify have partnered to help you make more informed dating decisions — at least as it pertains to musical interests. Users on Bumble will now be able to connect their profile to a Spotify account to let potential suitors know what types of artists, genres and songs you’ve got filling your playlists.

Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe told The Huffington Post:

“For us, it’s all about giving our users more fun and meaningful ways to connect,” she said. “Music has such convening power and we’re excited to see what insights come from users connecting based on a shared love of music.”

The ability to get a glimpse into the personal stylings of a potential match via music is an interesting one, although slightly disingenuous. Users still have the ability to blast Carly Rae Jepsen on repeat without their matches knowing by using Spotify’s ‘private session’ or you could just can just hide certain artists from within Bumble, a move that substantially cheapens the appeal.

With the ability to hide what we’re actually listening to, you have to wonder, what’s the point?
