Study: Most iPhone owners are too embarrassed to use Siri in public

According to a recent study by Creative Strategies, some 98 percent of iPhone users have used Siri, the virtual assistant baked into every iPhone since the 4s. However, just 3 percent of us are using the feature in public or in front of others.

“With public usage as low as 3% for iPhone users, it seems users are still uncomfortable talking to their devices,” the research firm said in a statement. “Even more fascinating is this happens in the U.S. where consumers are accustomed to talking loudly on phones in public.”

Interestingly, while only 3 percent of people use Siri in public, that number doubles for those using other digital assistants (Google Now, Cortana, etc.). 20 percent of those polled reported they don’t use the feature in public because it’s uncomfortable talking to their phones with others around.

Also notable, Android users use voice assistants in public more than any other group, and four times as much as Siri users (12 percent). Of course, iPhone owners do use Siri, but it seems to be mostly in the car, where their 62 percent usage rate is nearly double that of Android (37 percent).

The results suggest all of us are a little gun shy about talking to our phones in public, but none more than Apple users.
