YouTuber gives ‘Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ a next-gen look using Unreal Engine 4

‘Zelda: Ocarnia of Time’ is one of the most celebrated games in history. If you’re one of the many clamoring for a “what if?” view of how the game would look had it been built with current technology, YouTuber CryZENx has your fix.

Rendering portions of old school games has brought a fair bit of attention to CryZENx, who previously rendered Mario Kart and Sonic using earlier versions of the Unreal Engine.

Unreal Engine is a toolkit that gives developers the tools they need to create games without a lot of intense building of textures, physics engines, or lighting effects.

A lot of your favorite games were probably built using the Unreal Engine. ‘Turok,’ ‘Rocket League,’ ‘Tom Clancy’s Rainbox 6 Vegas 2,’ ‘Borderlands (and ‘Borderlands 2’), the ‘Gears of War’ trilogy and ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ all used earlier versions of the engine.

While YouTube commenters are clamoring for CryZENx to render the entire game, you shouldn’t hold your breath. Rendering a single scene from an N64 game on a modern game engine is a lengthy process, the entire game would need some studio muscle behind it.
