Amazon follows through on threats, no longer sells the Apple TV or Chromecast

Amazon follows through on threats, no longer sells the Apple TV or Chromecast

If you want an Apple TV or Chromecast, you’ll need to look beyond Amazon. As expected, The online retailer has pulled all of Apple and Google’s hardware from its site, even those sold by third-party retailers.

Amazon’s reason for doing so? It felt customers were ‘confused’ by the selection when shopping for streaming boxes that don’t offer Prime Video.

It’s worth noting there’s nothing stopping Amazon from building a tvOS-ready Prime Video app for Apple TV. You can still cast Prime Video content for the iOS app to your Apple TV via AirPlay.

It seems as though Amazon is leveraging its ecosystem to squeeze a rival out of its online store, which likely ships a lot of Apple TV and Chromecast units. What Amazon doesn’t explain is how many consumers are actually confused, or why they don’t just create a pop-up message on their website for devices that are incompatible with Prime.
