Just a year after launching, YouTube’s Music Key is shuttering next month, the company has told subscribers in an email.
Come November 30, users outside the US will be without ad-free music streaming from YouTube when the subscription service ends and YouTube’s new venture – YouTube Red – won’t yet have launched.
Music Key offered users full album streams and offline listening for $7.99 a month, and also included access to Google Play Music. Users will still be able access and upload to Google Play Music after November 30.
Music Key never made its way out of beta, so YouTube Red will be another attempt at breaking through that barrier for the streaming service. With more than music on offer though, YouTube Red combined with Google Play Music for $10 a month doesn’t seem to bad… If you don’t mind the wait.
YouTube Red officially launches on October 28 in the US. The company says it plans to expand to other markets, but not until 2016.
