Amazon’s Dash Buttons let you re-order household essentials with virtually no effort

Amazon’s Dash Buttons let you re-order household essentials with virtually no effort

Amazon has today launched Dash Buttons, a new way for people to buy commonly required items for around the house at the literal press of a button.

While it might seem like an early April Fools’ Day prank, the Dash Buttons are apparently real – and are designed as a follow-up to last year’s Dash Remote that let you buy things by dictating voice commands or scanning an item.

The idea here is that you place a Dash Button somewhere where you often need to re-order household essentials – like attached to your washing machine – and can then re-order your chosen brand in one press. You can control which item you want to quickly re-order via the buttons using the Amazon smartphone app. Once an order is placed, a notification is sent to your phone – and cancelling is still possible if you pressed the button in error.

Amazon Dash Buttons are only available to selected Prime members based in the US right now.

I can’t see myself using one personally, or wanting several dotted around my home, but if it is legit, Amazon is seemingly continuing in its pursuit of finding new ways to bridge the divide between digital and real-world sales.
