China is blocking popular VPN services meant to skirt the Great Firewall

The AP is reporting that many popular VPN services used to circumvent China’s censorship of sites like Google and Facebook are being blocked by the country.

According to the report, VPN services were being used to visit blocked sites and access services like Gmail via mobile devices. By blocking those services, China has cut off access for many inside the country.

The Great Firewall is the term used to describe China’s blocking of certain sites and services it deems inappropriate for its citizens.
