Nintendo is pulling the plug on Club Nintendo rewards, but promises a new loyalty program

Nintendo has today announced that it will be discontinuing its Club Nintendo loyalty program beginning April 1 and will complete the process at the end of September 2015.

By April 20, users will be unable to register digital products downloaded from Nintendo’s eShop. If you do decide to go ahead and purchase anyway, they’ll no longer appear in ‘My Registered Games & Systems’. By the end point in September, all the features of the platform and Stars will be removed, and users will be unable to access accounts or redeem Stars against items in the catalog.

Nintendo has, however, promised that an all new membership program will replace it before the end of the year. As a teaser to keep users interested, the company also said that people who sign up to the new program during its launch period will get a free copy of Flipnote Studio 3D for Nintendo 3DS for free, as will people who open an account before Club Nintendo closes at the end of February.
