Snapchat now lets users and businesses create their own location-based geofilters

Back in July, Snapchat introduced a ‘geofilters‘ feature, which allows users to place overlays on Snaps that are unique for given locations.

Today, Snapchat announced it is allowing anyone to create their own filters via a new Community Geofilters page.

Another conference. “Great.”

This one’s different, trust us. Our new event for New York is focused on quality, not quantity.

Artists are asked to choose where they want to make their filters available, and then upload an image to use as an overlay. Users are presented with a few design guidelines and have the option to download a template to get started.

The filters have to be approved by the Snapchat team before anyone can use them, however.

Notably, Snapchat also includes a separate request form for businesses. Geofilters could serve as a type of alternative check-in, so it’ll be interesting to see how businesses take advantage of the feature.
