Facebook is constantly tweaking its News Feed algorithm, and according to a post on the company newsroom today, a new change is incoming – you’ll start to see less ‘promotional page posts’ starting 2015.
Facebook has a few mock-ups showing what they mean by promotional page posts:

The company says it decided on the change after conducting surveys with users. One might expect users to find ads the most annoying, but the study instead saw that people most disliked posts that seemed to only push promotions with no context.
Naturally, one wonders whether these promotional posts will instead be replaced by more ads, but Facebook says this is not the case.” The idea is to increase the relevance and quality of the overall stories – including Page posts – people see in their News Feeds,” the company says.
Facebook says most pages shouldn’t be significantly affected; the change is intended for the most zealous promoters out there. Still the company suggests business pages check out their suggested practices here.
