Online storage provider Box has acquired YC-backed Streem, a cloud-based filesystem that allowed users to mount virtual drives on their desktops and get streaming access to their files.

Streem’s three technologies, which include its filesystem, custom streaming and buffering algorithms, and a video transcoder, will be incorporated into Box. There’s no specific timeline on when Box will integrate Streem’s technology, but it plans to “rapidly” make it happen.

Existing Streem users can have their files transitioned over to a Box account, or they can choose to download a ZIP file with their data. The firm will share more information on the migration process in coming weeks.
