Amazon Prime will now cost you $99 a year in the US, Student Prime gets a price hike too

Amazon has announced something that we thought could be on the horizon: it’s increasing the price of its Prime and Student Prime subscriptions in the US.

The company hinted during a recent earnings call that the price could be set to rise – and today we have confirmation. It’s the first price rise in nine years for Amazon Prime – which nets subscribers access to on-demand streaming, free two-day delivery and e-book rentals – and will now cost $99 per year, up from $79. It’s a slightly smaller price increase for students, up to $49 per year from $39 previously.

So. Much. Tech.

Some of the biggest names in tech are coming to TNW Conference in Amsterdam this May.

The increased fee will take effect next time you need to renew, Amazon said, and the Prime Fresh membership fee will remain unchanged at $299 per year.
