It’s the first price rise in nine years for Amazon Prime – which nets subscribers access to on-demand streaming, free two-day delivery and e-book rentals – and will now cost $99 per year, up from $79. It’s a slightly smaller price increase for students, up to $49 per year from $39 previously.

The increased fee will take effect next time you need to renew, Amazon said, and the Prime Fresh membership fee will remain unchanged at $299 per year.
