HowAboutWe is moving beyond the world of dating to also focus on lifestyle choices after it announced the acquisition of Nerve.com. As a result, the company has launched a media network with four online properties — Nerve.com, TheDateReport.com, and its new sites Swimmingly.com and Famously.com. Each one is centered around various stages of connecting people together, whether it’s dating, sex, or relationships.
The new media company will be independent of HowAboutWe’s subscription services, HowAboutWe Dating and HowAboutWe for Couples, which recently marked its one-year anniversary and launched in Los Angeles.
Nerve.com co-founder Rufus Griscom and CEO Sean Mills will both remain with the newly-formed company, taking seats on its advisory board. Users of Nerve.com’s personals platform will be added to HowAboutWe Dating’s membership roll of nearly 2 million people and receive a free three-month subscription.
Nerve.com launched in the 1990s as a site covering taboo topics like sex scandals to other controversial subjects that might not feature in the radar of mainstream media. HowAboutWe says that it saw an “opportunity” to infuse life into the publication to address modern-day issues like sexting and revenge porn.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
