Target confirms names, phone numbers, mail and email addresses breached for up to 70m people

Back on December 19, Target announced there had been unauthorized access to customers’ payment card data, with the retail giant later confirming that PIN data had been stolen from debit cards across 40 million accounts.

Now, the company has issued an update to its ongoing investigation, confirming that “certain guest information” other than payment card data has been exposed for seventy million individuals.

While the company does point out that this isn’t a fresh breach, it does now mean that names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses for “up to” 70 million individuals may have been breached. This is a big jump from the initial claims, and the company says it will try and contact the affected users by email – with information “including tips to guard against consumer scams”.
