3 million people pledged $480 million to Kickstarter campaigns in 2013

3 million people pledged $480 million to Kickstarter campaigns in 2013

Kickstarter launched its year in review site for 2013 today, revealing some new figures that reaffirm its position as one of the largest and most successful crowdfunding platforms.

Campaign organizers raised $480 million from 3 million people on the site last year, which worked out at roughly $1.3 million each day, or $913 every 60 seconds. Over 800,000 backers pledged money for at least two projects, while roughly 81,000 supported more than 10. Only 19,911 projects reached their funding target, however.

Backers spanned 214 countries and territories across all seven continents, including Antarctica. For comparison, Kickstarter took just shy of $320 million in pledges from 2.4 million backers throughout 2012.

Many have asked whether the crowdfunding bubble will burst anytime soon, as backers begin to see how many of their supported projects make it to market as intended. If these figures are anything to go by, the level of support for Kickstarter campaigners won’t be diminishing anytime soon.
